The Braintree District Local Plan Review (adopted in July 2005) provides the basis for seeking planning obligations to provide a range of improvements that benefit the public. These include public open space and amenity space, community and other facilities including health and education, affordable housing to meet local need, access and transport infrastructure, conservation and utility infrastructure improvements.
This Open Space Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) sets out guidance on the Council’s approach to the provision of open space and sport and recreation facilities in conjunction with new housing and commercial development. This SPD does not introduce any new policies, but gives guidance on how the existing policies should be interpreted. It also gives developers and the public up to date information on financial contributions.
This SPD is published in draft for the purpose of consultation. All responses will be taken into consideration in the revised guidance to be adopted as the SPD. Once adopted, it will be considered alongside the Braintree District Local Plan Review, the Braintree Green Spaces Strategy and other relevant policy and material considerations in the determination of planning applications for development.
A Sustainability Appraisal of the SPD is also available for comment separately.
